Mexico City is the #1 city in Spanish-speaking Latin America for Startups (according to Bloomberg Linea). Who doesn’t love a good, I told you so.

Since my last musing, I published a VC database that includes 250+ funds that invest in Mexico-based startups. The community resource was created after many founders asked me for help with fundraising. With the rise of the region, there are new players that are writing checks. You can access the database here.

In June, I flew to NYC to attend the 40th Annual Americas Society Spring Party, where Marcelo Claure was given a gold medal alongside Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer (details here). Speaking of the big apple, I will be hosting a Latam Summer Social for Founders, Investors, and Friends in New York City on July 20th (RSVP here)❗

Born in Africa, whole career in the US, invested globally. I have no natural bias in favor of or against any region I believe Latin America, particularly Brazil and Mexico, are the best risk/reward in venture capital over the next 5-10 years

When @snyatta used to tell people he was moving to Miami to invest in LatAm startups, they thought he was crazy. Now, it's not far from the norm. Last year, venture investing exploded in the region. The question now is who is sticking around in a downturn
protocol.comCan VC investment in Latin America survive the downturn?Demographics, opportunity and a new generation of founders brought venture dollars south, but now the “LatAm thesis” could be tested by a downturn.
